Forest School at Frome Valley
As explained by the Forest Schools Association, Forest School is an inspirational process, that offers ALL learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees.
At Frome Valley, the aim of our Forest Schools is to develop:
- Self Awareness
- Self Regulation
- Intrinsic motivation
- Empathy
- Good social communication skills
- Independence
- A positive mental attitude, self-esteem and confidence
All the children from Reception class to Year 4 have an opportunity to participate in a 6-week block of forest school sessions, enabling them to learn through first-hand experiences and to reinforce the learning from the classroom.
The sessions are linked to National Curriculum subjects but also develop ‘forest school’ skills through the use of natural resources, tools and the outdoor environment. Each session also aims to include the development of thinking skills, managed risk, enhancing vocabulary and embedding British Values and our school values.
